Producer and director Subhash Ghai has been called Bollywood’s second showman after veteran filmmaker Raj Kapoor. After watching perennial movies like ‘Kalicharan’, ‘Vishwanath’, ‘Karz’, ‘Hero’, ‘Vidhata’, ‘Karma’, ‘Ram Lakhan’, ‘Saudagar’, ‘Khalnayak’, ‘Pardes’ and ‘Taal’ The public became a fan of his cinema. As much as the best story has been shown in his films, good music has also been served. But for the past few years, good quality production has not taken place at the Subhash Ghai ‘Film Factory’. The film ’36 Farmhouse’, made under the banner of his production company Mukta Arts, bears witness to this, which works to lower his reputation. Directed by Ram Ramesh Sharma, this movie is streaming on the OTT platform Zee5, in which actors like Sanjay Mishra, Vijay Raj, Ashwini Kalsekar, Madhuri Bhatia and Amol Parashar have major roles. The story of this movie has also been written by Subhash Ghai along with Sharad Tripathi who seems to be the weakest link.
Sanjay Mishra and Vijay Raj have the lead role in the comedy-drama film ’36 Farmhouse’.
Writer Subhash Ghai and director Ram Ramesh Sharma have written the story of the movie ’36 Farmhouse’ in the context of the closure in the year 2020. It begins with a murder for the ownership of ’36 Farmhouses’ and 300 hectares of land. The owner of this property is Padmini Raj Singh (Madhuri Bhatia). She gives all her property in the name of her eldest son Raunak Singh (Vijay Raj). Raunak takes good care of her mother Padmini, but tries to keep her away from contact with the outside world and people, so that no one can influence her mother. Because his two brothers Gajendra and Birendra are constantly trying to get their share of that property. He feels that his older brother has all the property in his name by brainwashing his mother. On the other hand, due to the lockdown, a large number of workers are migrating from Mumbai to their villages. They also include a chef Jai Prakash (Sanjay Mishra) and his son Hari.
Jai Prakash and Hari wander separately, reaching 36 farms. While Jai Prakash works there as a cook, Hari (Amol Parashar) works as a trailer with Antara (Barkha Singh), the granddaughter of the owner of the bungalow, who happens to be a designer. But both continue to share their joys and sorrows as a friend. This infuriatingly happens to Raunak Singh. He often warns both of them to stay apart. Anyway, both father and son would have come there due to their greedy nature, but they don’t know that the first matter here is very serious. Here at the farm, the police are searching for the lawyer Raunak Singh kills. A team of police officers also searches the farmhouse from which the lawyer has disappeared, but there is no trace of him. On the other hand, Raunak Singh kills the lawyer and throws him into the well built inside the farm, but surprisingly his body is not recovered from there in the police investigation. Where did the body go?
All questions are eaten by Raunak Singh and his secretary. Meanwhile, his younger brother and the second brother’s wife also arrive at the farm. In this way a whole group of greedy meets in a farmhouse. In such a situation, it is interesting to know what happens to the owner of the property, Padmini Raj Singh? Do you change your bill or do you give the entire property to Raunak Singh? Murdered lawyer or not? If so, where did his body go? The film ends as he searches for answers to these questions. But based on his story, Subhash Ghai tries to do comedy and drama but is unsuccessful. Despite having excellent actors like Vijay Raj and Sanjay Mishra in the film, their effect is not visible. Contrary to his natural acting, Vijay Raj may try to become a villain, but his comedy character from the movie ‘Run’ is in the minds of the audience in such a way that people search for him again and again.
By the way, in terms of performance, only Sanjay Mishra looks better. His comedic timing is good in many places of Jai Prakash’s character. However, in many places he is also seen as a victim of overacting. Apart from this, Amol Parashar had high expectations for the character of Harry, but he has not been able to live up to it either. Madhuri Bhatia gives an honest performance as Nani, aka Padmini Raj Singh, who wants her family to love her more than her money. Barkha Singh is a bit different in character from Antara. His on-screen chemistry with Harry looks good. Akhilesh Srivastava’s cinematography is better when it comes to the technical aspect of the film. The shooting of the film has been done mostly inside the farmhouse, so the challenge was more for him, but he has done his job honestly. Subhash Ghai made his debut as a music composer and lyricist with this film. He has written and composed two songs, both of which sound sweet.
In general, an attempt has been made to make comedy about serious topics in the movie ’36 Farmhouse’, which has become the reason for its failure. In this, many serious topics including epidemics, unemployment, poverty, wealth, class system, and women’s empowerment have been discussed, but none have been shown in depth. In the matter of doing comedy, comedy has passed with the film. If you are a fan of Subhash Ghai movies, then this will greatly disappoint you.
