Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao tied the knot on 28 December 2005. Their love affair started in 2001 on the sets of the film ‘Lagaan’. Kiran Rao was assisting director Ashutosh Gowariker on the sets of the film. Kiran Rao’s first film as an assistant director was ‘Lagaan’.

It is said that the rift between Aamir Khan and Reena started during the shooting of ‘Lagaan’. In the year 2002, Aamir decided to separate from Reena. Aamir said that after separating from Reena, he felt Kiran’s support which helped him handle the painful situation at that time. A day after the divorce, Kiran called Aamir. Gradually, both of them started dating and both of them lived in live-in for about one and a half years of marriage. The couple married in 2005. Their son Azad was born through surrogacy in December 2011. Amin has two children from Reena, Junaid and Ira.
Speaking of a new chapter in the statement
In a statement announcing the divorce, Aamir and Kiran wrote, “In these 15 years we have experienced a complete life together, being happy, laughing and growing up in the fire of trust, respect and love.” We are about to start a new chapter in our life. We will no longer live as husband and wife but as co-parents and each other’s family. We decided to part ways sometime back and now we are separated.
