Ajay Devgan’s ‘Rudra’ proves to be very weak compared to ‘Luther’

In view of the growing OTT craze, now the biggest Bollywood stars have also started playing here. Following Madhuri Dixit’s digital debut with ‘The Fame Game’ web series streaming on Netflix last month, action star Ajay Devgn also entered the world of OTT with Disney Plus’ ‘Rudra – The Age of Darkness’ web series. Hotstar. This psychological crime drama made under the banner of BBC Studios and Applause Entertainment airs today. It is directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, known for directing the films ‘Ferrari Ki Sawari’ and ‘Ventilator’. Esha Deol, Rashi Khanna, Tarun Gehlot, Satyadeep Mishra, Atul Kulkarni and Ashish Vidyarthi are also seen in major roles in this web series which premieres in Pan India Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali.

The web series ‘Rudra – The Age of Darkness’ is told as the Hindi remake of the British TV show ‘Luther’. This show became famous all over the world. The main reason for this is considered to be the story of the series and the lead actor. The story of this show gets exciting episode by episode, so viewers are forced to hold their breath until the very last minute. Along with this, the main actor of this show Idris Ilba has given the best performance of him. He brings to life the character of a policeman named John Luther. Idris has also been seen in the role of Heimdal in the Marvel superhero movie ‘Thor’. As for Luther’s popularity, he has been remade as ‘Les Dan Evil’ in South Korea, ‘Klim’ in Russia, and ‘Luther’ in France. Following this, Hotstar has made a Hindi remake, in which Ajay Devgan is in the lead role.

Bollywood action star Ajay Devgan made his digital debut through the web series ‘Rudra – The Age of Darkness’.

There is no set formula for what it takes to remake a popular show from another country in a better and more engaging way in your own language. This is why the creators of the web series ‘Rudra – The Age of Darkness’ have tried to keep things light and simple by making the Hindi remake of the British TV show ‘Luther’. Its script is written by Ishaan Trivedi, Abbas and Hussain Dalal. After watching the web series, it is known that the writing team translated it into Hindi instead of putting much effort on their part. Scene-by-scene episodes of the series have been copied. Even the dialogues have been kept as such. For example, a dialogue can be heard in both ‘Luther’ and ‘Rudra’, “Are you sleeping with Him?”

Despite this, many dialogues have been held according to the Indian conditions and audience. As DCP officer Rudraveer Singh tells him in one place, “Jumla hai ye.” On this, Rudra says: “The whole system works with jumlas, boss.” Why and for whom the word ‘Jumla’ is used, almost everyone knows. The opposition mainly uses this word to surround Modi and BJP. Well, now let’s talk about director Rajesh Mapuskar, who dove straight into the story without wasting any time. DCP Rudraveer Singh (Ajay Devgan), who has been sitting at home for seven months. He has been suspended by the department for working against rules and regulations. But seeing the rise of crime in the city and his nature, his boss Deepali Handa (Ashwini Kalsekar) cancels his suspension for a while.

Deepali tells her superior officers in the Handa department that Rudra is the only police officer who can control this type of crime. Rudra goes back to work. He is given the file of the most heinous crime that occurred in the city. He starts the investigation. In this way, in a series of six episodes, one new incident after another comes to light. The criminal who executed this is highly intelligent but psychopathic. There is turmoil in the life of Rudra, who is searching for him, whose layers continue to be exposed as the series progresses. As if despite being capable, Rudra always remains controversial. His passion for work ruins his personal and professional life. He doesn’t get along with anyone in the department. Even the wife at home is suffering. His wife Sheela (Esha Deol) lives in cohabitation with another man without divorcing him. Not only this, the methods he uses to delve into the minds of criminals during the investigation of the case often put him at risk.

In the first episode, besides Rudra, another character is introduced. Prodigiously talented Aaliya Choksi (Rashi Khanna) is engaged in space research, but her suspicious activities make her a defendant in a double murder case. The creators have carefully tried to ensure that the web series has its own independent existence even after the adaptation takes place. An attempt has been made to create emotion starting with the dark visual tone of Ananya Birla and the theme song ‘Tera Inam’. The episodes of the series, despite their length, manage to capture the attention of the audience. The cinematography is dark, which is in tune with the world the director has created for the series. Although Mumbai has appeared in many Hindi movies, this series features a different aspect of Mayanagari. Which is interesting to see.

If we talk about the acting of the actors, then ‘Rudra – The Age of Darkness’ completely resembles an Ajay Devgan web series. Dominate from the first to the last episode. However, his parallel character of Raashi Khanna also affects people. Rashi Khanna, who made her Bollywood debut in the year 2013 with John Abraham’s film ‘Madras Cafe’, is mostly known for her acting in Southern cinema. The delivery of dialogues that he has done in this series along with his superb acting has drawn everyone’s attention to him. Ajay Devgan always looks good in the role of policemen. Just look at his police characters in the movies ‘Naajaj’, ‘Insaan’, ‘Gangajal’ and ‘Singham’, whenever he wore a uniform, the theater resounded with applause and whistles. However, he does not wear a uniform in this web series. He is like an undercover agent. Apart from these two, actors like Esha Deol, Ashwini Kalsekar, Tarun Gehlot, Satyadeep Mishra, Atul Kulkarni and Ashish Vidyarthi have given average acting performance.

In general, it can be said that the noise with which Ajay Devgan’s web series ‘Rudra – The Age of Darkness’ has been released is not of that level. It can’t even be compared to the performance of the British TV show ‘Luther’ and its lead actor Idris Ilba. Yes, Ajay Devgan and Rashi Khanna have tried very hard to handle it with the strength of their acting. If you are a fan of Ajay Devgan and want to watch a psychological crime thriller then you can check out this web series.
