Four companies of the Union Army have been deployed to Lakhimpur Kheri in view of the potential for conflict. The leader of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, is reportedly still in police custody.
Following the incident, farmers’ organizations have demanded the removal of Ajay Mishra from the Union Cabinet. Meanwhile, Congress released images of a vehicle driven among farmers in Lakhimpur. A jeep was seen crashing into a group of farmers who were walking with the flag. Video of the jeep being driven among protesting farmers was posted on Twitter. “The disturbing scenes of Lakhimpur Kheri. The silence of the Modi government shows its involvement in this crime,” Congress said on Twitter.
In the scene, a turbaned farmer is seen falling onto the hood of a vehicle when he was hit by a jeep that collided with farmers. It is clear from the scene that when the jeep crashed, other farmers fled in fear. About six people were run over by the vehicle and fell to the ground.
