Argentina’s first match since becoming Cup champion was a landslide victory over a weakened Venezuela. Argentina won 3-1. Lautaro Martínez (45 + 1), Joaquín Correa (71) and Ángel Correa (74) scored for the winners. Jefferson Soteldo scored a goal for Venezuela in the innings. Brazil’s victory over Chile was Everton Ribeiro’s only goal (64). Other results: Bolivia 1-1 Colombia, Ecuador 2-0 Paraguay, Peru 1-1 Uruguay. Brazil leads the region with 21 points from 7 games. Argentina with 15 points and Ecuador with 12 points are in third and fourth place respectively.
Germany beat Liechtenstein 2-0 in the European qualifiers for the World Cup. Timo Werner (41) and Leroy Sane (77) were the top scorers. Belgium beat Estonia 5-2. Vanakken (22), Lukaku (29, 52), Witzel (65) and Thomas Focket (76) scored for the winners. Matia Kate (2) and Eric Sorga (83) also scored for Estonia.
England defeated Hungary by four unanswered goals. Raheem Sterling (55), Harry Kane (63), Maguire (69) and Rice (87) scored for the winners. Sweden beat Spain 2-1 Other results: Czech Republic 1-0 Belarus, Andorra 2-0 San Marino, Poland 4-1 Albania, Italy 1-1 Bulgaria, Northern Ireland, North Macedonia 0-0 Armenia, Romania 2 -0 Iceland.
