- New study shows it’s good for reducing belly fat
A study by researchers and collaborators at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that women who ate an avocado a day as part of their diet experienced a reduction in abdominal fat, as well as a proportion of visceral fat, but consuming Avocado diary did. it does not help reduce fat in men.
Benefits of eating avocado daily
As part of the experiment, 105 overweight and obese adults were fed once a day for 12 weeks. The participants were divided into two groups. When one group was given a meal containing avocado, another group was given a meal with almost the same ingredients and similar calories, but no avocado. Glucose and abdominal fat tolerance, metabolic rate, and diabetes level of the participants were measured at the beginning and end of 12 weeks.
Women who ate avocado as part of their daily diet had less abdominal fat. However, there were no changes in fat distribution in men. The researchers found no improvement in glucose tolerance in either women or men.
From these results, the researchers found that a diet consisting of one avocado every day may have influenced people’s ability to store body fat in a way that is beneficial to their health, but its benefits have been found primarily in women.
Researchers hope to conduct an additional study to understand the full effect avocados have on body fat and health. The University of Illinois has collaborated with researchers from the University of Florida and Eastern Illinois University on this study.
