Bollywood legend Dileep Kumar dies at 98

New Delhi: Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar passed away. Dilip Kumar died in a private hospital in Mumbai at the age of 98. He died of pneumonia. Last Monday, Dilip Kumar’s wife, Saira Banu, had said that his condition was improving and that he would soon be discharged from the hospital, but his condition worsened. The funeral took place at 7.30 am on Wednesday. The country honored Dilip Kumar with the Padma Vibhushan. He has previously served as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

Dileep Kumar was born in 1922 in Peshawar, undivided India. Dilip Kamar was born as one of twelve children of Lala Ghulam Sarwar Khan, an old merchant, whose real name was Muhammad Yusuf Khan. Dilip Kumar came to Mumbai with his father at the age of eight. Mohammad Yousuf Khan, who ran a canteen in a military camp near Pune, was taken to the movies by actress Devika Rani and her husband Himanshu Rai, owner of Bombay Talkies. His first film was Jwar Bhata, produced by Devika Rani in 1944. He has also acted in comedy roles in such films as Dileep Kumar Gangajumana and Ram Aur Shyam.
