Drishyam 2 success is a lesson for Bollywood, remake movies should be made like this

If we say that the business of a large part of the Hindi film industry has been running thanks to remake movies, then it would not be wrong. The tradition of Hindi remake of Hollywood and South Cinema movies is very old. It started in the 70’s only. However, then the remake of the Chori Chhupe movies was made. At that time there were no such resources and technology, so someone could be caught stealing. This is the reason why remake movies were made on a large scale without giving credits. Superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Jitendra, and Akshay Kumar became so famous thanks to remake movies. But as the technology got stronger, the thefts began to be detected. After this the official remake phase began. In this, money had to be paid in exchange for the Hindi rights of the film. But it was still cheap. Because without extra effort, a bump was found after a little manipulation.

Before the wide spread of the internet, South or Hollywood Hindi remake movies used to get a good response. But in later times, people understood that they were being presented with an outdated story. Because people have already seen the Hindi dubbed version of those movies on YouTube or OTT. As a result, Hindi remake movies started to fail fast. If we talk about this year only, except for the recent release of ‘Drishyam 2’, most of the movies have failed at the box office. These include Hrithik Roshan-Saif Ali Khan’s film ‘Vikram Vedha’, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Kathputli’, Taapsee Pannu’s ‘Dobara’, Aamir Khan’s ‘Lal Singh Chaddha’ and Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Mili’. ‘Drishyam 2’ has proven to be the most different in the list of failed remake movies. The biggest reason for this is that despite being a remake, its treatment has been different.

The film ‘Drishyam 2’ has grossed Rs 95 crores worldwide.

The story of ‘Drishyam 2’ was already present with the makers but it took seven months to write it in terms of Hindi audience test. Many of these changes were made to it, which would not be seen in the original Malayalam and Telugu films. For example, the characters of Akshay Kumar (Police Officer) and Kamlesh Sawant (Gaitonde) were created separately. This will not be seen in the original film. The story of the movie is done by Jeetu Joseph who is also the writer of the original movie of him. But he has created a new story as per hindi audience. The biggest role in this has also been played by the director of the film, Abhishek Pathak. He had understood that if the remake was done like before, then no one can stop it from being a flop, because the audience has already seen this story. In such a situation, why would you come to see him in Hindi after spending your money?

This very question inspired Abhishek Pathak to do something new. After this, he worked hard on the story, script and dialogues with his writing team members Amil Kian Khan and Jeetu Joseph. After this, in addition to the original characters from the film, some new characters were created. In this, Akshaye Khanna was hired as the new investigating officer IG Tarun Ahlawat. Based on his talent, Akshay has brought his character to life. If along with Ajay Devgan and Tabu they are called the strong pillars of the film, then there will be no exaggeration. Regarding his efforts, Abhishek himself says, “When we started writing the film, we did not start shooting immediately. It took us 7 months to write the film. So there are many changes that make it different from the Malayalam and Malayalam versions. Telugu. But the core soul of the film is the same.

On remakes, Abhishek Pathak says, “I think making a remake is more difficult than making an original film. When you make a film about a new story, there is no benchmark against which it can be compared. This happens in the case of a remake movie. People start comparing it to its original movie. In the case of a remake of a blockbuster movie, it’s too much. Because people already like that movie. As soon as it’s released the remake, let’s start comparing it. This is the reason why we have made a lot of changes in ‘Drishyam 2’. New sequences and scenes that are not in the original have been inserted. New characters have been added. Like the character of Akshaye Khanna , who does all the research in his own style. We’ve also brought back Gaitonde, who was one of the highlights of the original film.
