Coming out of Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail for 26 months in May was nothing less than a ‘magic’ for Ajaz Khan. He was taken into custody by the NCB in 2021 from the Mumbai airport in the drugs case and was arrested in March this year. Talking to our colleague ETimes TV about spending more than two years in jail, he said, ‘Even a day in jail seems like a year. I don’t want to talk about the person who made this case against me (Sameer Wankhede). The world is witness to what is happening to them now. I would like to wish them all the best. I was declared guilty even before the verdict. Eventually I got bail from the Supreme Court. But I am in jail for 26 months. I miss my work and the years of watching my son grow up.

Talking about the tough life in the jail, Ejaz Khan said that ‘Arthur Road Jail is probably the most overcrowded jail in the world with 3500 inmates against a capacity of 800’. 400 people go to one toilet. Think what would be the condition of the toilet! I have gone through anxiety and depression. It was tough but I had to survive for my family. My family consists of 85 year old father, wife and a son. I met many people in jail including former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, Sanjay Raut, Armaan Kohli, Aryan Khan and Raj Kundra. At first I refused to meet my son as I did not want him to see me in jail. Finally after six months I met him. He wanted to hear my side of the story and be strong for the world. He is fine now and is becoming a good footballer.
A book written about his experience in prison
Ejaz Khan has also written a book about his experience in jail. Talking about this, he said that it is not only about me but about 3500 prisoners and their experiences. I want to make a web series on this. I will contact the studio soon. I will have only one condition that I will play my character in it. In fact, the prisoners who are outside should be cast as they can tell the story well. He further said that ‘I want to come back to work with a good role. I have worked with big stars of South. I will ask him for work and I am sure he will have something to give me.

Ejaz Khan wants to focus on family
Eijaz also vowed to stay away from controversies and focus on family and work. He said that ‘I do not want to get into controversy. I have to raise my son and take care of my father. My first priority is my family. Now I have become a humble and God fearing person.’

Aijaz Khan, who was a contestant of Bigg Boss 7, had faced some allegations in the past. In June 2016, he was accused of sending obscene messages to a model and in October 2018 of buying drugs. To this he said, ‘Where is the girl who accused me of sending obscene messages? If this was true, I would still be behind bars. In respect of the second charge, I was framed and released within 10 days. I think some people wanted to tarnish my image. He was also arrested in July 2019 for sharing objectionable posts on social media and remained in police custody for 2 days. On this he said that ‘I have learned only one thing from this that from now on I will stay away from sharing my opinion on social media’.
