Mumbai: Human rights activist and Jesuit priest P. Stan Swamy passed away. Stan Swamy’s death comes as the court hears bail in the Maoist case. He was transferred to a ventilator due to deteriorating health.

His lawyer announced the death while the Bombay High Court considered his request for bail. The lawyers had asked the court to grant them immediate bail due to health problems.

Stan Swamy has been in treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital since May. He was admitted to the hospital on May 28 and suffered from severe shortness of breath, lawyer Mihir Desai said.
