The trailer for the biographical sports drama Jhund, directed by Nagraj Manjule, is out. In Jhund, Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of Vijay Barse, known as the founder of slum football. The story of the film is inspired by real events. Vijay did a remarkable job as a sports teacher at Hislop College, Nagpur. His story was also shown on Aamir Khan’s popular Satyamev Jayate show, which was previously broadcast on television. Now Nagraj has made his entire life the subject of the film.
In the year 2001, while working in Nagpur, Vijay coached soccer to slum children. Children who come from the lowest rung in the caste hierarchy. However, when he began this work, he did not receive much encouragement from his university either. Nagraj Manjule is known for his ideological films. He till now he made movies in Marathi. Sairat and Fandry are notable, in which the personal caste pain of society at the bottom rung of society has found a voice. Jhund’s story is also seen in the same field.

Amitabh doesn’t look fresh in Nagraj’s movie
Jhund’s trailer can be called effective at first glance. Jhund’s score and music are also jarring, which had already come to the fore. More than a dozen actors are seen in the film. Nagraj has reprized Rinku Rajguru and Akash Toshar in pivotal roles in Sairat’s main star cast. Many other actors like Ganesh Deshmukh and Vicky are also seen in major roles but Amitabh Bachchan is in the center of attraction. Another issue is that the role of Amitabh doesn’t seem very new compared to the other supporting actors. At least that’s what it looks like in the trailer. Amitabh doesn’t see any different preparation for Jhund. Amitabh Bachchan looks more compared to Vijay Barse in the style of smiling, sitting, getting excited, keeping his hand on his waist, talking to children, etc.
While the characters in Nagraj’s movies look very effective and brilliant. Because of the kinds of themes Nagraj chooses, there is room for characters to emerge. There was a similar scope with the Amitabh character. Despite this, from the looks to the acting in the trailer, the superhero doesn’t look outside of his own frame. Especially seeing him in comical and emotional scenes. Jhund’s story is the story of the iron intentions of one man and his team. The story of a hero who has to fight for his cause in the system-society everywhere. In the almost 3 minute long trailer, Amitabh’s face as Vijay Barse didn’t even show a glimpse of that fight. Amitabh is written in emotional scenes.

The herd is an inspiring story. The hero of the Dalit stories still watches and inspires with the fighting spirit. Even if he is weak and the circumstances are against him. Being Nagraj’s film, Amitabh’s character is expected to emerge as a superhero on screen. However, he is seen crying and sobbing in the trailer, being forced by the situation. Heroes of Dalit stories do not cry over the situation and struggle with it. Based on the theme of the movie, it’s heartbreaking to see Amitabh emotional. Well, it will be a matter to be seen in the film under what circumstances Amitabh becomes emotional. But acting-wise, the other supporting artists in the trailer look more original and fresh depending on the theme. While all the faces are not even recognized.
Jhund will be released next month, on March 4th. The pandemic affected the film’s release very badly. This movie was ready a long time ago. Now it opens in theaters. Jhund is the first film by Amitabh Bachchan to be released in the year 2022. Some of Jhund’s songs are becoming very popular. Especially the melodies of ‘Lafda Jhala’ and ‘Aaya Ye Jhund’ are enticing.
