Jogi Movie Trailer Review: A harrowing film about the anti-Sikh riots

There are many such incidents recorded in the history of India, which shook the entire country at the time. People get scared even after remembering those incidents. When the same incidents are presented on the big screen, those moments that put humanity to shame begin to flash in people’s minds. One such incident occurred in the year 1984. It is remembered as the anti-Sikh riots. 84 Many movies have been made in Bollywood about the anti-Sikh riots. Among them, the names of films such as ‘October 31’ (2015), ‘Hawain’ (2003), ‘Kaum De Heere’ (2014) and ‘Sun 84 Justice’ (2014) stand out. In this episode, a new movie, ‘Jogi’, will be released on the OTT Netflix platform on September 16, 2022, whose heartbreaking trailer has been released. It shows how the Sikh community living in Delhi at the time was drowned in the river of fire.

If the trailer for Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Jogi’, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, is like this, what will the film be like?

The movie ‘Jogi’ is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. From an OTT point of view, this is his second big project. Previously, his political betting based web series ‘Tandav’ has been streamed on Amazon Prime Video. There was a lot of fuss across the country about this series. Cases were filed against filmmakers along with the OTT platform in many places. Apart from this, Ali Abbas is also known for directing movies like ‘Gunday’, ‘Sultan’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ and ‘Bharat’. In this way, two things are for sure here, that there is no doubt about the success of this movie and secondly, considering the theme of this movie, there may be fear of fuss and opposition. Alongside Diljit Dosanjh in ‘Jogi’, actors such as Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Kumud Mishra, Hiten Tejwani, Amyra Dastur and Paresh Pahuja also have important roles.

Watch the trailer for Jogi Movie…

The 2 minute 12 second trailer for the movie ‘Jogi’ provides a terrifying glimpse into the dark chapter of Indian history, which shook society and politics at the time. One morning in 1984, the family of Jogi (Diljit Dosanjh), a Sikh living in Delhi, was having breakfast as usual. Jogi, a student at Delhi University, says: “O nine baaj gaye, how late it is, Papa ji. Paranthe de de didi.” His mother tells her father, “Coming back from the office at night, bring a big present for Parab.” To this, Jogi says, “Parab se bhi badda?” Parab, sitting on her lap, smiles. The whole family starts laughing. But alas, the happiness of the family fades at the end of the night. With the sound of three bullets in the trailer, the whole atmosphere changes. All the arsons and shootings seem to be happening. Sikh families are targeted.

One person (Kumud Mishra) says on the phone: “I want the list of voters, you must mark the name of each one.” After this, the Sardars are selectively executed. Here on the bus, the rioters catch Jogi. Jogi asks, “What’s my mistake?” The troublemaker says, “You are the Sardar, this is your fault.” Jogi somehow escapes there and makes it to his house. He tries to save the family from him. One of his police friends (Md. Zeeshan Ayyub) advises him to move from Delhi to Punjab. But Jogi says that he can’t run away leaving the people behind him. He stays there and competes with the perpetrators of violence. For this he has to change his identity. He even cuts his hair. In the midst of this misery, his friendship helps him. With the help of his two friends, he tries to save the family and the Sikh community from violence.

Actor Diljit Dosanjh has won hearts with his strong performance in the trailer for this movie. From a student going to college to a jogi facing rioters, seeing him in character, it seems like he’s living through that terrible scene. Diljit has often been seen in comedy movies, but seeing him in this movie about a serious subject like riots is reminiscent of Angry Young Man Amitabh Bachchan, who has been seen to act tremendously in every character, be it comedy or serious. Diljit is basically a singer, but due to his great performance in Punjabi movies, he also got the opportunity to work in Bollywood movies. His first Hindi film of his is Udta Punjab which was released in the year 2016. In his first film, Diljit won people’s hearts with a different acting. He has also appeared in Akshay Kumar’s movie ‘Good News’.
