Despite restrictions, including closures, as part of Kovid’s defenses, police said it seized millions of rupees worth of drugs last year. 24,000 kg of cannabis were seized in various districts. While 4,066 cases related to drug trafficking were recorded, 5,291 people were arrested, authorities said.
In addition to cannabis, heroin, hashish, charas, cocaine, MDMA powder, MDMA pills, amphetamines and LSD strips were destroyed. Authorities said the fires were started with the permission of the Pollution Control Board.
In addition to the city of Bangalore, drugs were seized in places like Kalaburagi, Belagavi and Udupi and drugs flowed into the districts from other states, police said. 161 kg of opium and cannabis were seized. Police said drug trafficking was high during Kovid’s checks.
