Another Bollywood movie starring Taapsee Pannu tanked at the box office on the first day. At the same time, in its second week, the Hindi version of South’s supernatural drama Kartikeya 2 is witnessing a commercial tsunami, itself a case study for the commercial cinema circle. The mystery drama ‘Dobaara’, released on the occasion of Janmashtami, directed by Anurag Kashyap, is the official remake of the 2018 Spanish film MIRAGE. There were mixed reactions about the film. Word of mouth cannot be called bad with regard to content. However, it will be said that the film fails to attract more audience to theaters.
A negative social media campaign against Anurag Kashyap’s film was also shown. People appealed not to see it. Cinema exhibitors in general have also not shown much interest in showing Dobara after seeing the dilapidated state of Lal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan in theaters. Taapsee’s film reportedly opened on around 1,500 screens. At the same time, some reports claim that the number of screens is even less than this. On the first day, the film has raised a collection of just Rs 72 lakh. Business is not considered very bad in business circles. As Taran Adarsh also said, again 370 is on the screen. The film has an opening better than all the apprehensions.
Kartikeya 2 is ahead again at the box office
Despite this, Dobara’s collection on the first day certainly cannot be called the best compared to South’s Kartikeya 2. Facing Dobara, the Hindi version of Kartikeya 2 has taken a step towards explosive business in the second week. According to trading analyst Taran Adarsh, Kartikeya 2 took out a huge collection of Rs 2.46 crore on the second Friday. The Kartikeya 2 collection, which is seen riding on the best word of mouth, will be considered a tsunami. The film is on more than a thousand screens. The business of the film, adorned with the leading role of Nikhil Siddharth, is a clear testament that this is a favorite film for the Hindi audience going to cinemas. The movie business is excellent in the massive pocket and on individual screens.
In the second week again, Kartikeya 2 looks ahead in the competition.
Is Karthikeya 2’s business reminiscent of The Kashmir Files?
Karthikeya 2’s business was reminiscent of The Kashmir Files. The creators of both films are the same. In fact, The Kashmir Files also got a very small number of screens. But when the movie was released, there was tremendous word of mouth for it. The film also benefited from public debate and as the days passed, screens, shows and collections of the film increased. It looks almost the same with Kartikeya 2 as well. The only difference is that in the case of Karthikeya 2, you can feel the amount of well-planned advertising that The Kashmir Files displays. This is why Kartikeya 2 may not have collected as much as the big Kashmiri archives, but its trend is about the same.
With only 53 shows in the Hindi belt, Kartikeya 2 started at 7 lakhs on day one. Which earned 28 lakhs on the second day, 1.10 crores on the third day, 1.28 crores on the fourth day, 1.38 crores on the fifth day, 1.64 crores on the sixth day. He has earned Rs 8.21 crore so far with the earnings of Rs 2.46 crore on the Janmashtami holiday on Friday. That too in a situation where two big movies from Bollywood’s biggest stars, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar, are being shown in theaters opposite the movie. The third movie also came in the form of Dobara. But the failure of the Aamir and Akshay movies paved the way for a Southern dubbed movie.
What’s next at the box office?
From the way Kartikeya 2 has done business on Janmashtami, you can believe that the movie business will be more tremendous over the weekend. The number of movie screens in theaters may increase. Saturday and Sunday business can surprise the business circle. As far as Bollywood is concerned compared to the south, you will have to wait for a better Friday.
