Kovid Crisis: Prime Minister Says Country Gives Poor Higher Priority

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the country’s first priority in tackling the Kovid-19 crisis is putting the poor first. From day one, the government thought about feeding and employing the poor. He said that during the Kovid epidemic 80 million Indians were given free rations.

The Prime Minister spoke in a video conference with the beneficiaries of the Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana in Madhya Pradesh. Wheat, rice and legumes were also supplied along with free gas cylinders. The government has also been able to disburse around Rs 30 billion directly to more than Rs 20 million women through its Jandhan Bank accounts.

More than five million people in Madhya Pradesh are among the recipients of free rations. People should wear masks and wash their hands to prevent the spread of Kovid. Emphasis will be placed on the central government’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative. The single-dose vaccine from the US company Johnson & Johnson has been approved for immediate use, bringing the total number of vaccines distributed in the country to five. He said the supply of vaccines could be accelerated.

Meanwhile, the central government said on Friday that Kovid’s vaccination in the country has exceeded 50 million rupees. “This is a historic achievement in the fight against Kovid,” Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandav said on Twitter.
