Narayan Rane Arrest: “Uddhav was beaten”; Maharashtra Police Arrest Union Minister For Controversial Remarks


  • The arrest was made following a complaint from a firefighter.
  • The Superior Court had rejected the FIR’s request for dismissal
  • He is the first Union minister to be arrested in 20 years.

Mumbai: Maharashtra police arrested Union Minister Narayan Rana for making controversial remarks against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The action was taken following a complaint by Shiv Sena activists. The minister was arrested by the Ratnagiri police. Narayan Rane is the Union Prime Minister arrested in the last 20 years.

The Bombay High Court had previously rejected a petition for annulment of a registered FIR against the Union Minister.

Speaking at a ‘Jana Ashirwad Yatra’ in Raigad, Narayan Rane referred to Uddhav as ‘beaten’.

‘Addressing the state on August 15, Uddhav forgot about the year of independence. Uddhav asked those present during the speech. If he had been there at the time, he would have beaten Uddhav. That’s what the Union minister said.

Earlier, Nashik Police Chief Deepak Pandey had said that the minister could be arrested and brought to court and proceed according to the court order. He said that since Rana was a member of Rajya Sabha, he would formally report to Vice President Venkaiah Naidu after his arrest.
