Dehradun: Pushkar Singh Dhami has been elected Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. The announcement came after the BJP assembly approved the name of Dhami, an MLA from Khatima.

The decision was made after discussions with 57 BJP MLAs. With this, Dhami became the 11th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Dhomi said that he would work with everyone’s confidence. He added that the river was telling Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Interior Minister Amit Shah.

Pushkar Singh is the third chief minister of Uttarakhand in four months. The term of the Assembly is until March of next year. Uttarakhand’s elected prime minister, Tirath Singh Rawat, resigned on Friday night. He submitted his resignation on instructions from the BJP central leadership. Tirath Singh became the Chief Minister last March.

Tirath Singh has been appointed as the chief minister of Uttarakhand in shorter service. He was in power for only 115 days. Rawat, who was a deputy from Lok Sabha four months ago, resigned to become prime minister. Rawat, who is not currently an MLA, needs a referendum to continue as prime minister. The resignation comes amid by-elections in the context of Kovid.
