New Delhi: The first woman, the president of the country’s Supreme Court, BV Nagaratna, will take office in 2027. Judge Nagaratna is currently the judge of the Karnataka High Court.

The high court collegiate headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana has recommended nine people, including Justice Nagaratna, to the high court. It has three female judges.

Apart from Judge BV Nagaratna, Judge Hima Kohli and Judge Bela Trivedi are also on the list. They are both judges of the Telangana High Court and the Gujarat High Court.

For a long time, the need for a woman justice for India has been heard from many quarters. Before the retirement of former Chief Justice SA Bobde, it was said that the time had come for India to have a woman as Chief Justice.

Judge Nagaratna is the daughter of ES Venkata Ramaiah, who was the Chief Justice from June 1989 to December 1989. Apart from them, Judge Abhay Srinivas OK, Judge Vikram Nath, Judge JK Maheshwari, Judge CT Ravikumar and Justice MM Sundaresh have also made recommendations to the Supreme Court.
