What is the total cost of Gangubai Kathiawadi? Are the movie’s profits on track against the budget?

Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has received high praise. While critics openly praised the work of Bhansali and the crew, audiences in abundance also found the period drama starring Alia Bhatt special. The effect of the positive atmosphere created around the film is also visible in its box office. This question may be interesting for people who after ‘Padmavat’ Bhansali did Gangubai Kathiawadi in how much budget and what is the profit of the film on the first day.

Gangubai Kathiawadi was released on February 25, just one day after Bhansali’s birthday. Gangubai is estimated to be shown on more than 3,000 screens across the country. In all film reports, information about the cost of Bhansali’s dream project is in the public domain. Based on this, the total cost of the film is around 175 million rupees. This is Rs 25 crore less than Kangana Ranaut’s estimate. Recently, during the criticism of Alia Bhatt and Gangubai in gestures, Kangana Ranaut had said that the cost of the film was an unnamed Rs 200 million.

Where did Bhansali spend the cost money?

Costing Rs 175 crore, the highest expense comes in the form of production sharing, which is around Rs 150 crore. According to some business reports, this cast also has the salary of all the star actors in the movie, including Bhansali, Alia Bhatt. Although, who received the remuneration money, this information has not yet been confirmed. The premiere of the film had to be postponed due to the pandemic. Gangubai was scheduled to release on January 7 this year. But SS Rajamouli also announced the release of his RRR film on the exact same date, after which Bhansali dropped out and had to close the second date. Since the launch date is after the phone, the producers cost was hit by another Rs 10 crore as interest. Apart from this, the filmmakers also spent around Rs 15 million on the printing and promotion of the film.

Without challenge, the film can win 50 million rupees by Sunday

Now talking about the profit of the movie compared to the cost, on the first day the movie did more business than expectations. Where the film was expected to earn between Rs 5-7 crore, Gangubai Kathiawadi made a deal of Rs 10.50 crore. This business is from the desi box office. Overseas figures are yet to be revealed, but it’s believed the film will do brisk business there as well. Especially in the Gulf regions. Gangubai’s box office will also take a hit due to weak first-day business and films that were opposite Alia in the Hindi region. Valimai from Ajith and Bhimla Nayak from Pawan Kalyan did good business in the south, but the collection that has come out in the northern regions cannot be called satisfactory.

Both of the southern films were also dubbed and released in Hindi. Due to the business of Gangubai, the showing of films and screens in theaters may increase. So far the film is on 3000 screens. It is clear that the film business can be seen more on the weekend. The way word of mouth was made and the first day collection came out, if the pace continues, then the film can easily cross the benchmark of earning Rs 50 crore on Saturday and Sunday holidays. Currently, there is no challenge facing Bhansali’s film at the box office.

Profit is only profit for the creators of Gangubai

The next big Bollywood movie will be released on March 4. It is a biographical sports drama directed by Nagraj Manjule and stars Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role. I mean, the movie is getting nine empty days at the box office. It can be believed that in these nine days, Gangubai can easily cross the 100 crore mark. Apart from the box office, if we talk about the profit of the movie, the filmmakers have made a lot of profit. Netflix has purchased the rights to the film for OTT release. In return, an amount of Rs 65 million has been paid. While Rs 30 million in exchange for satellite rights for TV premieres and Rs 200 million for music and other rights have found their way into the pockets of Gangubai producers. That is, the manufacturers have earned 115 million rupees.

Even if Bhansali’s film makes 100 crores through the cinemas, it can be said that investors who invest money in Gangubai Kathiawadi make huge profits. Big investors include Jayantilal Gada and Bhansali himself. The film is inspired by true events, the story of which is told based on a chapter in the book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ by S Hussain Zaidi. In the film, Alia played the role of a sex worker named Gangubai. Alongside him, actors like Ajay Devgan, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa, and Jim Sarbh are in major roles.
