Who is Binodini Dasi, whose biopic Kangana Ranaut is going to do?

Bollywood controversy Queen Kangana Ranaut, who has been missing from the headlines for the past few days, has suddenly jumped into the spotlight. The reason is that a new movie has been made, in which Kangana will play the lead role. This will be the fourth biopic for Kangana, which is based on the life of famous Bengali stage actress Binodini Dasi. Previously, the actress played the role of Jayalalithaa in ‘Thalaivi’ and Rani Lakshmibai in ‘Manikarnika’. She is currently working on the movie ‘Emergency’ inspired by the life of Indira Gandhi. In this, she plays the role of Indira Gandhi. Pradeep Sarkar, who has directed movies like ‘Parineeta’ and ‘Mardaani’, will direct the new film, whose title is not yet defined.

Very few people know the Bengali stage actress Binodini Dasi. Even despite all her social, literary and artistic achievements, her name is not recorded in history as it should have been. Very little has been read and written about him until now. This is why when Binodini’s life story is shown on the big screen, she will definitely attract people. Her character is very difficult, but looking at the talent of an actress like Kangana Ranaut and her tremendous performance in the previous biopics, it can be said that she will do justice to this character. The story of the film will be based on Binodini’s autobiography ‘Amaar Katha’.

Bollywood controversy Queen Kangana Ranaut suddenly became the center of attention.

Binodini Dasi is also known as Noti Binodini. He was born in 1862 in a red light district of Kolkata. Her mother was a sex worker. This is why after growing up, Binodini also got into the body business. But in the meantime, she got in touch with a Bengali theater artist, through whom she came into contact with Girish Chandra Ghosh, the owner of the Grand National Theatre. Girish was greatly impressed by Binodini’s beauty and in 1874, at the age of 12, he gave her the opportunity to work in the theater. After this, she continued to work until she was 23 years old. During this, she played more than 80 characters, in which the roles of Pramila, Sita, Draupadi, Radha, Ayesha, Kaikeyi, Motibai and Kapalkundala are important. She also played the role of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. In 1884, influenced by her art, the great Bengal saint Ramakrishna came to see her work.

At the age of 23, he took a break from his job due to health problems. He took a month’s leave from his theater owner, Pratap Chand Jahuri, and went to Kashi to rest. There his health worsened. In this way, it took him about two months to recover. After returning to Kolkata, he came to the theater to work in plays, then it was discovered that Pratap Chand Zahuri did not want to pay for his vacation. Binodini objected. He believed that he had taken a leave of absence due to health problems, for which he should receive money. Because his health has been affected because of work. He announced that he would not work until he got the money. As soon as the owner of the theater arrived, he asked for money, after which he received no answer. A short time later she returned to her house.

Girishchandra Ghosh and Amrit Mitra went to his house to persuade the angry Binodini, but they refused to work without receiving any money. He even increased the demand for his salary. Due to this difference, his career ended prematurely. At the age of 23 he said goodbye to the theater. But through his thinking, he gave a message to the society that women and men are equal, so they should be treated equally. If not, in the society of the 19th century, where the independent existence of women was not considered, this Binodini was so aware of her rights that she decided to leave the Pratapchand theater as she did not receive the salary.

After leaving the theater, he began to write his autobiography. Which was published in 1913 as ‘The story of my life’. After this she wrote another book, Amar actress Jibon (My life as an actress). She was the first South Asian actress to write her autobiography. In her two books, she wrote openly about the experiences of the theater world in colonial Calcutta, the loss, betrayal and exploitation that she suffered. Her contribution as an actress, businesswoman and makeup artist is unforgettable. She is known for creating a new style of makeup that is a mix of European and Indian styles.

Binodini Dasi has not only written about herself in her autobiography, but has also shed light on the status of women in society at the time. She seems to be openly talking about hypocrisy, especially towards women and actresses. At a time when actresses worked in poor conditions. She was considered low in the eyes of the people. She was considered a ‘bad woman’. Even in terms of pay, she ranked below the men. She has made a scathing comment on the so-called enlightened Bengali society of the 19th century, which embraced European values but viewed women’s freedom with suspicion and mistrust. Not only this, any woman who did not conform to notions of femininity was condemned. She made an attempt to keep him confined to the house. Despite being a great actress, she used to face ridicule due to her background.

The decision to make a biopic about a person like Binodini is commendable. The good news is that there are going to be two biographical films about his life. Apart from the untitled Kangana Ranaut film, a Bengali film is also going to be made, which name is ‘Binodini Ekti Naatir Anakyan’. In this, Bengali actress Rukmini Maitra will play the role of Binodini Dasi. Rukmini will also play the role of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, which Binodini played during her theater days. Looking at Binodini’s life, playing her character is a challenge for both Kangana Ranaut and Rukmini Maitra. Along with this, there is also an opportunity, by making such a historical character, one can record her name in the pages of history.
